History on Tap - In Coal Mining Country

  • Hopkinsville Brewing Company 102 E 5th St Hopkinsville, KY 42240 (map)

Join the Museums of Historic Hopkinsville-Christian County at our next History on Tap program at the Hopkinsville Brewing Company on Thursday, September 20 at 6:30pm. Local storyteller Ann Roseberry will skillfully weave a tale about her family’s experiences in the coal mines of Hopkins County.

In her talk “In Coal Mining Country,” Ann Roseberry combines an account of the Daniel Boone Mine Disaster of October 27, 1941 in Hopkins County and her family’s personal narrative of that event. Did her grandmother’s premonition or second sight keep her grandfather from being among the dead that day? She also tells the story of her paternal grandfather and his long and hard life in the mines of Western Kentucky. Did a random act of kindness save him on the day when a section of the mine collapsed?
