Born Gloria Jean Watkins in Hopkinsville and writing under the pen name bell hooks, this remarkable woman published 40 books in her lifetime. Her memoir Bone Black: Memories of Girlhood explores her life growing up in Hopkinsville in the 1950s and ‘60s. The collection of short stories brings the community to life through the eyes and remembrances of one of the most respected feminists of our time.
